At GoEpps, great content is no accident; it’s shaped and guided by people who care about quality and strategy. One of those people is Ethan Keeley, our Content Manager. With over seven years of experience at GoEpps, Ethan plays a key role in managing editorial calendars, refining strategy, and ensuring every piece of content meets the highest standards. How long have you been working at GoEpps?

At the time of writing this (August 2025), I’ve been working full-time at GoEpps for nearly three years, since 2022. Before that, I was writing for a host of GoEpps clients on a freelance basis (for about four-and-a-half years). So, in all, I’ve been with the company in some capacity for over seven years (since 2018).

What is your current role at GoEpps, and what does it entail?

My current role is Content Manager. As the title implies, I manage the flow of content (mainly blogs and other on-site content) for GoEpps clients. This entails developing quarterly content calendars (editorial schedules), attending regular meetings with clients to refine strategy and performance, and managing writers by assigning them tasks, helping them improve their skills, and ensuring everyone is keeping up with deadlines.

I wear other hats, too. Quality assurance (QA) is a major lane for me. I regularly check any content intended for a client’s website, ad account, or social page (including GoEpps content), to ensure it is error-free. I’ve also developed several training materials for writers and editors to solidify GoEpps’ processes and streamline onboarding.

What is your background in digital marketing?

My educational background is in creative writing (I have a B.A. in Creative Writing from SUNY Geneseo). So, while marketing was never my main focus, my affinity for the written word led me here after graduating. For the past decade, I’ve written blogs, pages, and marketing materials for several clients on a freelance basis. All of this has allowed me to oversee a higher volume of content for a larger client base. I might not be the one writing all the material anymore, but it all goes through me before it goes live.

What’s a project or campaign you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?

It’s difficult to narrow down a particular project. So much of what I do occurs on an ongoing basis. Still, it’s gratifying to see a client’s website rise in the rankings after months or years of regular content publication and refinement. We’ve also recently helped a handful of clients create brand new websites or improve their existing sites. These projects can take time, and coordinating the design, copy, and web development is always a challenge. But when it all comes together, seeing one of these websites go live is a great feeling.

What most excites you about the future of digital marketing? What are your concerns?

We’ve been talking a lot lately about authenticity vs. attention. The massive investment in AI is obviously changing things, and in some ways, it’s making our jobs easier. It’s also making a lot of marketing material look and sound the same. This isn’t sustainable for businesses that want to stand out and maintain trust with their audience. So, on the one hand, I’m excited to see brands making the extra effort to be themselves and not simply fall into the sameness trap as so many others. On the other hand, I worry that some businesses won’t see the value in keeping humans in the loop, instead opting for the lowest-common-denominator web copy to save a buck in the short term. It’s a balancing act, to be sure.

I also worry about the ethical implications of AI as they relate to intellectual property (IP), environmental concerns, and the job market. There might also be a rude awakening on the horizon for investors if this AI bubble bursts in the coming months or years. We’ll see how it all shakes out. Regardless, digital marketing is changing fast.

What’s your favorite thing about working at GoEpps?

I enjoy the flexibility of working here. Our entire team works remotely, but this doesn’t prevent us from communicating well or getting our work done. I like being able to see what meetings I have on my calendar each day, check my to-dos, and plan my day accordingly. It means I can better integrate my daily life with work and avoid getting too stuck in a routine. Every day brings something new.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any side gigs or unique hobbies?

I’m a musician, so I’m always writing, recording, practicing, or performing music. Guitar is my main instrument, though I dabble with piano, violin, bass, mandolin, and any instrument in my vicinity. I’ve been in several bands since high school, signed a record deal right out of college, and toured much of the East Coast, Midwest, and into the southern parts of the U.S. Right now, I’m in two bands and work on my own music on the side.

As far as hobbies go, I’ve enjoyed video games since my parents got me a Nintendo 64 as a kid. I’m still a big Nintendo guy. I’ve also become more interested in history over the years, and I try to read a mix of fiction and non-fiction regularly. I also enjoy writing short stories, and frankly, need to do more of it.

As for side gigs, I’ve done (and continue to do here and there) some voiceover work for different companies—some commercial stuff, some explainer videos, and even a virtual museum tour in Lithuania. It’s a blast!

Rapid fire: Favorite movie, TV show, book, and/or podcast?

Favorite movie: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button speaks to me on a deep level.

Favorite TV show: It’s a toss-up between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Vince Gilligan and co. just nailed that universe.

Favorite podcast: I listen to way too many, but I’ve been enjoying Pivot with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway these days.

Favorite food or drink?

Food: Pizza. It’s always been pizza.

Drink: Coffee—black. I’m a sucker for a good craft beer, though

Anything else we should know about you?

I love to travel. Recently, I’ve been to Ireland and Scotland. I hope to explore more of the world in the coming years.
